Ageing gracefully with Rustinaâ„¢
This unique paint ageing system for the Nick Agar Signature Series from Chroma Craft will definitely give your workpieces the wow factor. The water-based paint system is easy to use and creates the look of ancient corroded metal on almost any material.
Turn any project into a rusted artefact with this simple four step paint system.
Step 1. Choose a primer - choose either a Gun Metal Grey or Black Primer or the textured primer Road Rash. Road Rash is a grit like undercoat that gives your workpiece a gnarly, corroded iron effect and can instantly transform one material into an aged piece of metal.
Step 2. Next apply your chosen metallic paint - choose either copper, bronze or iron for the specific metal result you are looking to achieve. The metallic paints contain real metal particles, which when activated, using the Chroma Craft Rustinaâ„¢ Aging Solution, will create a rusted, aged effect.
Step 3. Apply the Rustinaâ„¢ Aging Solution - spray, brush, sponge or dab on the ageing solution onto the wet metallic paint and wait. Depending on the ambient temperature and humidity the change can take 20 minutes to a couple of hours. The finish produces actual patina or rust, in various shades, to provide a realistic aged effect. There are two colours available, either a blue-green colour for a verdigris effect, or use brown-rust for a more traditional rusted effect.
Step 4. Finish with a top coat of Chroma Craft Sealer WRU-20, for a long lasting protective finish. It offers a tough, chemical-resistant finish that is easy to apply and offers outstanding durability and adhesion.
Chroma Craft Rustinaâ„¢ is a unique water-based system, which you can use to produce the look of ancient corroded metal on a variety of surfaces, including wood, metal, ceramic, glass and plastics.
Developed with Woodturner Nick Agar, this system imparts a realistic aged blue/green verdigris or a red/brown rust effect on turned objects and other items. It is a simple four stage process that only involves wielding a paintbrush.
The first stage is the Primer, which provides the base colour for your chosen effect; available in Black, Grey or Road Rash. The Primer is applied to give a background for the metallic paints. The black and grey go well under any of the metallic paints. Road Rash is a little different in that it contains small coarse particles that give you the textured finish of heavily rusted iron.
