The Axminster Professional AP457WL Woodturning Lathe is a powerful, stable and versatile machine, designed to handle a wide range of turning projects with ease. Its heavy cast iron construction provides over 170kg of mass, delivering excellent stability and minimising vibration for smooth, controlled results, even when working with large or unbalanced timber.
With a capacity of 610mm between centres and a 457mm swing over the bed, the AP457WL is well suited to both bowl turning and spindle work. The headstock swivels 180° and features a spindle lock, allowing comfortable outboard turning. Three 75mm precision machined mounting faces, enable secure attachment of the supplied bed extension, while 24-position indexing supports decorative and segmented turning. This flexibility allows you to tackle everything from large bowls and platters to long spindle work, with scope to expand as your turning needs evolve.
A powerful 2HP (1.5kW) motor delivers consistent torque across the speed range, ensuring smooth performance in all conditions. Electronic variable speed control allows precise adjustment to suit delicate tasks or larger, out-of-balance pieces. Three selectable speed ranges: 50 - 900, 100 - 1,850 and 200 - 3,850 rpm, provide excellent versatility.
For convenience and control, the magnetic back switch unit can be positioned anywhere on the lathe bed or headstock. It features clearly arranged on/off buttons, a speed control knob, and a forward/reverse switch, allowing easy operation from wherever you’re working.
Integrated tailstock storage keeps essential tools close at hand, helping maintain an efficient workspace.
The lathe features an M33 x 3.5 mm ASR spindle, compatible with all standard M33 x 3.5 mm threaded chucks and accessories. The ASR system includes a safety groove, designed for use with compatible fittings and a locking ring to ensure secure operation in reverse. This feature is optional for general turning.
The lathe is supplied with a 150mm tool rest, 4-prong drive centre, live tailstock centre, 400mm bed extension, 100mm tool rest height extension and adjustable feet, giving you everything needed to get started straight away.
