The No.6 Bedrock Fore Plane is perfect for quick stock removal, truing up long edges and levelling wide boards thanks to its longer length. It is typically used before any other plane for preparation.

Blade

The cryogenically treated, high carbon steel blade with 25° bevel provides excellent edge retention.

Chip breaker

The design of the chip breaker reduces vibration when plane is in use.

Body

Ductile iron body, with a flat ground sole, hardwood tote and handle. The weight of the body ensures the plane will glide smoothly when planing.

Frog

Adjustable frog – close the plane’s mouth for fine work. Without removal of the iron, the frog can be adjusted to widen or narrow the mouth of the plane for increased control and fine tuning. This bedrock design ensures for maximum stability for the iron, resulting in less blade chatter.

Y-lever

The Y-lever design prevents backlash and helps with micro blade adjustments.

Comfort

Hardwood tote and handle ensure the plane feels comfortable and sturdy in your hand.

Cap iron

The lever cap iron prevents shaving or tear out.

Lateral adjuster

The ‘disc’ style lateral adjuster helps with micro blade adjustments and ensures the plane is level, offering uniform planings every time.

Axminster Workshop planes represent great value for home or professional use; whether in a workshop or out on site. The Axminster Workshop No.6 Bedrock Fore Plane is a dual-purpose plane; used for quick stock removal, truing long edges or levelling wide boards. Originally the No.6 was used for timber preparation be-FORE any other plane, hence the name.

The blade is cryogenically treated high carbon, offering excellent edge retention. It comes with 25° bevel. The blade only requires honing before use (putting a 30° micro bevel on the edge can be done in less than a minute).

The plane's main body is ductile grey iron with a flat ground sole. The weight of the body allows the plane to glide smoothly, even through rough timber. It features an adjustable frog allowing you to close the plane's mouth for finer work. The 'Y' level that helps control the depth is an investment casting for better engagement with the blade. The lateral blade control lever is the traditional 'disc' type rather than simple piece bent metal. The plane has a lever cap iron and solid brass adjusting nut. The handle is made from hardwood.

The bedrock design ensures for maximum stability and support for the cutting iron, resulting in less blade chatter. There is a full contact area between the body and the frog. Without removal of the iron, the frog can be adjusted to widen or narrow the mouth of the plane. This ensures for easier and more accurate adjustment to the mouth opening without damaging the cutting iron, for increased control and fine-tuning.

Axminster Workshop planes are made to a good standard and quality and only require a minimum of initial preparation or fettling before your first thin shaving. The sole of the No.6 is 460mm (18") long, the blade is 60mm (2.3/8") wide.
