When we think of workshops, we can all hope for a big, woodworking barn brimming with tools to create and inspire your next project, but there’s so much more to every workspace. It’s the people in them, the time spent in them, and the projects created; your passion for woodworking becomes the workshop.

Delving into your woodworking stories, similar ideas shone through; continuing a family love of woodworking, working closer to nature and detaching from a digital world, looking after your mental health, and a place to feel like part of a community. These qualities can make a workspace into a workshop.

We spent time with these four workshop heroes (and Axminster Tools customers) to share their workspace and what woodworking means to them

An amateur woodworker from Devon, Gary is starting on his woodworking journey following in his grandfather’s footsteps, while also giving him a space to switch off. Working out of his garage is the perfect spot for him to further his woodworking skills.

A woodturner from Eastbourne, Anna’s unique workshop is her dining room! Her favourite tool is the Scrollsaw, the first big tool she bought, which sits centre stage in her dining room workshop. She finds the space a lovely place to be in to step out of reality and become creative.

A professional carpenter from Essex, Richard’s joy of woodworking began in Canvey Island pottering in his Grandad's workshop. Currently working in Construction, his workshop has created many commercial projects, he is now looking to downsize to gain a better work/life balance, and to renew his passion of woodworking.

A former banker from the New Forest, Rebecca’s woodworking journey began in her dad's workshop, working on his lathe and bandsaw which now sits proudly in her garden workshop. She enjoys the peace and calm along with the achievement woodworking brings.
