Axminster Woodturning have recreated some of our most popular jaws in the smaller size to accommodate the 88mm Essential Chuck.

The Axminster Woodturning Pen Jaws allow you to drill pen blanks with confidence, knowing the result will be accurate and centred every time.

Drilling a pen blank can be tricky; the hole needs to be central, straight and round. While various jigs are available for doing the job on a Pillar drill, by far the best method is to do the job on the lathe.

The Axminster Woodturning Pen Jaws are 42mm deep and can accommodate either round or square blanks from 16mm upwards. The internal profile ensures a secure grip, even if the pen blank is not quite square. Using the jaws in your chuck and mounted on your lathe ensures the blank and the drill bit are centred on the same axis. You also have control of the speed of rotation and the feed speed of the drill bit. Advance the bit steadily and retract frequently to clear the waste. Once the jaws are fitted to your chuck you can drill batches of blanks to help speed up pen production.

These jaws are designed to fit the SK88 chuck and will simply bolt onto the Accessory Mounting Jaws. All made entirely in our manufacturing facility in Axminster, UK.

As the Essential SK88 Chuck and Jaws are made from EN1A steel, instead of stainless steel like our Clubman and Evolution premium chuck offerings, we recommend spraying it lightly with a dry lubricant on a regular basis to prevent tarnishing. You should do this more frequently if you are working in a damp workshop or turning wet timber.

Please note: the Axminster Woodturning Essential SK88 range of jaws are compatible with the Clubman SK80 Chuck and the Clubman & Evolution SK100 Chucks. They are also compatible with the Evolution SK114 Chuck, providing the SK88 Mounting Jaws are used.
