Axminster No. 62 Low Angle Jack Plane is a versatile bevel-up bench plane designed for end grain work, stock removal, shooting board use and fine finishing. Based on the classic No. 62 pattern, it combines the capacity of a jack plane with many of the features found on premium low angle block planes. The low 12° bed angle and bevel-up blade configuration deliver exceptional cutting performance, particularly on end grain, making it one of the most versatile planes in the workshop.
The No. 62 features a micro-adjustable depth mechanism and adjustable mouth, allowing precise control over the cut and helping to minimise tear-out. Its low cutting angle of 37° (12° bed angle and 25° blade bevel) produces clean, effortless cuts, while the adjustable mouth can be set for either fine finishing passes or heavier stock removal. The 5mm thick blade greatly reduces chatter, ensuring a smooth cutting action and an excellent surface finish. By increasing the blade bevel angle, the plane can also be adapted for difficult or interlocked grain.
The main body is manufactured from ductile iron for strength, durability and impact resistance. The sole measures 350mm (14
