A shooting board combined with a finely set bench plane is perfect for the final precise squaring and cleaning up of end grain. A workpiece first sawn very nearly to size is then ‘shot’ by removing thin shavings to its final dimension and exactly square.
The Rider Shooting Board is made from stable 20mm thick Phenolic sheet with a hardwood fence and stainless hardware. The durable phenolic board is lightweight, it will not warp or twist, is water resistant and reduces friction. It is 500mm x 200mm with a 64mm wide track for your plane.
The fence can be fitted at either end of the board allowing it to be used right or left handed. The centre of the board features two 20mm dog holes (at 96mm centres). These dog holes allow the fitting of the optional mitre fence for trimming timber at 45°. Additionally, using a couple of UJK Parf Long Anchor Dogs you can secure the Shooting board to a multifunction workbench. Countersunk holes are provided at each end for attaching a simple batten to act as a bench stop or gripped in a vice. Alternatively, the board can be screwed to your bench.
Note: an application of machine wax will help your plane glide effortlessly along the track.
