Simon began in woodcarving after a career which included teaching art, sculpture, pottery, working as a mast spar and oar maker for an Oxfordshire company and restoring heritage carving.

He now works from his workshop at the Sylva Wood Centre, carving sculptural pieces for architects, interior designers, private clients and for exhibitions. Sculptural work ranges from table-top sculpture to kinetic garden pieces. He is currently half-way through 11 very large commemorative carved poles for the Woodland Trust, as part of the Tree Charter.

So pop along to our Cardiff store to share his passion for carving, see his work and get involved in some exciting workshops!

Stewart has been demonstrating at woodturning clubs and events since 2018 and is excited to share his love of colouring and texturing with you. He will demonstrate a variety of colouring techniques on bowls and platters using both stains and paints. Covering a variety of application techniques, the demo will include the use of paper towels, airbrushing, using stencils, templates and also masking. If that wasn't enough, texturing and shaping with rotary tools and a mini-grinder will also be included, as well as tips on how to practise different ideas without wasting wood, plus much more! Be sure not to miss this jam packed event. Suitable for all skill levels.

Join us in store where you will have the opportunity to chat with our expert team and get hands on with some of the demonstration tables. We will be showcasing a number of skills including pyrography, woodturning, wood carving, airbrushing plus many more. Take a look at our demo times below: Pyrography & Scroll Saw - 10am-11am, Airbrushing & Glass/Metal engraving - 11am-12pm, Model making with timber kits - 1pm-2pm, Resin workshop - 2pm - 3pm, Woodturning (small gift ideas) - 1pm - 4pm. Wood carving will be demonstrated all day and the South Wales wood carvers will be joining us too. Come along and get involved!
