2-Prong Drive Centers are useful for both general spindle turning and preparatory bowl work. With only 2-prongs they penetrate easily for a secure drive. They are a good choice when turning softwood or green, unseasoned timber. The 2-prong drive centres are particularly useful in cases where the end of the spindle is not square. Such as in the initial turning of natural edge bowl hollow form blanks. These drive centres offer deeper penetration and better driving power and are easy to re-sharpen. The centre point helps alignment. Place the point on the centre mark of your workpiece. Give the end of the drive a sharp tap with a mallet rather than using your lathe’s tailstock to push the drive home. This method removes any unnecessary pressure on your lathe’s bearings.
