Designed and manufactured here at Axminster HQ, the Bandsaw Buddy is the must-have accessory for every bandsaw owner out there. Do you need an easy, quick and accurate way of aligning your blade, fence or table? Perhaps you’re looking for a quick way of marking bowl blanks, or maybe you want precise, wafer thin veneers for that furniture project. Always keep your buddy on hand, the integrated magnets allow simple storage on your bandsaw, keeping it close to hand and ready for action.
Blade Alignment Tool
Rare earth magnets securely hold the rule to the blade. This enables you to align your rip fence and table perfectly parallel with the blade. Always use it on a new blade. Why? An old blade may have been twisted or kinked during use, knocking out the accuracy.
Thickness Gauge
A convenient and accurate metric thickness gauge, great for veneering.
Circle Marking Gauge
Draw circles for bowl blanks from 75mm to 400mm radius in increments of 25mm.
Straight Edge
Accurately machined from anodised aluminium, it's handy for accurate marking.
Bandsaw Buddy is a unique bandsaw blade aligning tool. Bandsaw Buddy allows you to check the alignment of the bandsaw blade to the face of the fence. Most other checks only require the use of a combination or engineer’s square. Truing the fence to the blade is tricky. Bandsaw Buddy has two rare earth magnets which hold it firmly on the blade. At 250mm long it is easy to spot any discrepancy and then make necessary adjustments. The magnets will keep it safely stored on the bandsaw’s frame when not in use. A scale on the tip helps set the bandsaw fence for cutting veneers or thin boards. Holes along the Buddy’s length at 12.5mm intervals allow you to draw arcs or circles in 25mm steps from 75mm to 400mm, a useful feature for marking curves or when cutting bowl blanks. Accurately machined from anodised aluminium, it also makes a handy straight edge.

Nicely made, well thought out.I tried this out and after a bit of fiddling it worked OK, but I have a small Axminster bandsaw with a narrow blade so it was difficult to get a consistent reading as the magnets could only be partially on the blade with the teeth in the groove. Could be better designed for small blades, probably great with larger saws.

"Must Have" if you resawI used to align the fence of my Hammer 3800 bandsaw using the 'cut a piece of wood freehand and see where it wants to go' method. The Bandsaw Buddy showed my i was of by 10 degrees. After aligning my bandsaw using the Bandsaw Buddy i cut veneer where top to bottom of the resulting veneer was off by only 0.1 mm. Using my previous method it was 0.5 mm en the Bandsaw Buddy method is much (!) quicker. And remember, for fine work like sawing veneer you need to do this every time you replace your blade.
If you resaw, this is your friend.

Made blade alignment quicker and easierThe bandsaw buddy did not help me align my blade any better than my old methods, but it did it in a fraction of the time.
When I saw the product, I was initially reluctant due to the price point, but now after using it for a while, factor in your time and it is good value.
I would suggest you consider it a part of the bandsaw and in that context a small addon cost.

Is this compatible with AXMINSTER WORKSHOP AW1950B bandsaw? Can it be correctly positioned on a smaller usable blade than large trade machines? I’ve really struggled with good accurate cuts on my bandsaw despite following tutorials on accurate setup

Yes - works well with my Record BS20 (which is a small saw)
It cuts well with a clean, good quality blade. Try https://www.bedfordsaw.co.uk/ for blades - highly recommended by me.
