Woodturning Tools

Knowing what woodturning tools you need when first starting out can be a bit of a minefield. A good place to start is with the Axminster Woodturning Tool Set. Made in Sheffield, England, they come correctly ground and ready sharpened. The blades are M2 HSS steel, fitted to smooth, well-shaped beechwood handles. M2 HSS holds a sharper edge for longer than cheaper carbon steel, meaning less time sharpening and more time turning!

Reviews from your fellow turners!

New to turning and didn't want to spend a fortune on tools until I've learnt how to use and sharpen them properly. Good set to get started with.

This is a good starter set. It includes one each of all the essential chisels needed to begin your Woodturning adventure. You will undoubtedly want to add to your range of chisels in due course, but this set will be a great starting point for you.

A Olsen

Roughing Gouge

This is primarily used to take your square timber down to round. Or, take away excess material to make a smaller diameter. This is a roughing tool, so the finish will not be the best.

Skew Chisel

Use a skew chisel for a variety of jobs. You can plane across your project giving it a smooth finish. It can also be used for vee cuts, a process turners use before they start beading.

Spindle Gouge

A great tool for making curves in your project. The flat sweep on the flute is used for detailing on spindle turning to create both beads and coves.

One of the easier tools to use and similar to the Spindle Gouge. Used to refine concave forms such as coves on spindle work, or light touches on the inside of bowls.
