Self-made or bought, shooting boards usually come with a single fixed angle, most commonly 90°, or occasionally 45° for mitres. Neither of which give you any other options to fine tune different angles. Veritas have come up with a solution with their usual flawless design and high quality construction.
An adjustable fence lets you plane at any angle up to 60° from square. Indents at common angles and a spring-loaded plunger simplify setting at 0°, 18°, 22.5°, 25.7°, 30°, 36°, 45° and 60°. For other angles, a locking handle secures the fence in position. A vernier scale on the quadrant lets you set with complete accuracy. A slot in the face of the fence accepts a wooden sacrificial extension made from an offcut, to prevent spelching by supporting stock from behind.
The 610mm long x 9.5mm deep shooting track fits the Veritas shooting plane and Veritas shooting sander. For other planes, the track is adjustable from 52mm to 57mm wide. Low-friction UHMW strips in the bottom of the track let the plane glide smoothly. The base is 19mm thick Baltic birch plywood, a cleat on the base registers on the edge of your bench to hold it in place. The fence is cast zinc-aluminium alloy, with steel and brass fittings. The track is durable aluminium. Size 610mm x 290mm. Made for left-handed use.
