Our Workplace

We know that if we attract, retain and invest in the best people, we will deliver the best results for our customers.

We strive to be a highly inclusive and diverse organisation (read our full Diversity and Social Mobility statement here), creating an engaging environment where our people can develop to their full potential. We do this in a number of ways:

Axminster HQ

Our Values

If we put these values at the heart of our culture, we will behave in a way that guides and motivates our actions.

Integrity

We believe honesty is the best policy. We believe that being open and sincere with each other, and our customers, is the best way to build not only trust, but lifelong relationships. We take responsibility for our actions, owning what we do right from the initial decision, through to the results. Not only that but we seek and give constructive feedback. We’re respectful, we’re truthful and we act with integrity.

Community

We value community. Whether that’s our community of customers, the communities that we work in, or our team community here at Axminster Tools, we’d be nothing without community. That’s why making a positive impact on those communities is our guiding principle, the one that shapes every decision and action that we take.

Collaboration

Life would be boring if we were all the same. We’re all different, and whilst we individually each bring strengths to the table, it’s only by working together that we can achieve our objectives, targets, and ultimately, greatness. We welcome and cherish individual differences, knowing that when we bring them all together with collaboration and our shared passion, that’s where the magic happens.

Knowledge

We’re experts at what we do, from the products that we sell through to how we make that happen. Each of us is here because we’ve got knowledge and skills that can help us all to achieve our goals. We’re constantly learning from each other and from those outside of our organisation, so that we can ensure we offer our customers the best experience possible

Learning and Development

We know that the success and growth of our business is only possible when people feel motivated and encouraged to do their best work. Whatever department you’re in or experience level you’re at, you’ll receive all the tools, training and support you need to reach your career goals. With the help of a Personal Development Plan. We encourage employees to learn whether that is through a qualification, or an outside insight (learning from others) or mentoring for your own role. As part of learning we also have a 5% learning initiative where all employees are encouraged to take 5% of their working week for additional learning to support their own development; you will always have the opportunity to learn and develop your skillsets.

We aim to ensure that every member of our staff shares in the achievements of our business. Annually, in December, our employees receive a discretionary pay award reflecting the company's performance.

We work hard to provide training to nurture talented individuals within our workforce to support us in identifying and grooming future leaders.

We prioritise employee wellbeing through our comprehensive Wellbeing programme which promotes and balances a healthy lifestyle as well as financial wellbeing. To find out more, visit our Careers page.

When our employees experience happiness at work, they tend to exhibit greater loyalty, remain with us and become advocates for our business. Additionally, they actively contribute and care about our company’s resources, as well as those of our planet and local communities. Jane Boulton (HR & H&S Director)

Our Reason

We do what we do to maintain a sustainable future for Axminster Tools, for the prosperity of our staff and the communities we support and engage with.

The Good Business Charter

The Good Business Charter (GBC)

In 2021 we were delighted to receive accreditation from The Good Business Charter (GBC) and continue to be accredited. The GBC is a voluntary accreditation and we joined to acknowledge our responsibilities and demonstrate our commitment to good working practices.

Our Marketplace

Our priority is to understand the needs of our customers and offer them solutions in a way in which they would like to be contacted. We aim to provide quality products at a fair price and exceptional customer service. Read our full policy statement here.

We aim to tailor our offering and service to suit each of these customer groups, supporting them in ways they want to be supported, whether online through our website, by email, face-to-face in one of our stores, at exhibitions or by a member of our field team visiting them in their workshop or place of work.

We work with many different types of customer, ranging from the home hobby and DIY user to large industrial organisations, schools and colleges. We’re passionate about woodworking and this allows us the opportunity to work with a number of different sectors in the industry including carpenters, joiners, furniture and cabinet makers and boat builders.

By listening to and taking notice of feedback from our customers, we want to market only relevant products to them and at a time when they want this communication. Our aim is to continually evolve so that we always meet our customers' needs for quality and service in the supply of tools, machinery and accessories.

Alan Styles (Managing Director)

Just a few words to say that I think that your email marketing is spot on at the moment. A good variety of offers and info so it doesn’t feel like sell, sell, sell. I open every one at the moment, whereas with most firms they get unsubscribed ruthlessly.
