We are pleased to announce that Axminster Tools will be sponsoring a scholar through the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST). Above all, it is our passion for woodworking and dedication to helping build a sustainable future for the industry that leads us to actively seek ways to support the education of woodworking crafts. So we were delighted for the opportunity to make a difference in the life and career of a talented and aspiring maker through QEST.

The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust was founded by the Royal Warrant Holders Association in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Association and the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. QEST celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2020 and in that time has awarded nearly £5million to 600 individuals working in over 130 different crafts.

Applications for funding now open

Applications are now open for the next round of funding. Talented and aspiring candidates can apply for up to £18,000 to further their education. This can be through traditional college courses, vocational training, apprenticeships or one-to-one training with master craftsmen. QEST are accepting applications between 11th January and 15th February 2021.

Meet The Scholar

Past scholars include Max Bainbridge of Forest + Found who you may recognise for his work producing incredible sculptured wood vessels but also for his feature as part of our Meet The Maker series.

My QEST scholarship has allowed me to take my career in the craft of woodturning to the next level. With the help, support and funding given by QEST and my sponsor Winch Design, I will be going to work with two master woodturners, Glenn Lucas and Phil Irons, to improve my technical skill and ability. I will also be attending a course to acquire the relevant certificates in ground based chainsaw operations and felling. The opportunity to work alongside and learn from master craftsmen is an invaluable experience that QEST has given me. I think it is fantastic that Axminster are going to sponsor the next generation of craftspeople.

Max Bainbridge, Forest + Found.
