Our compound bars are colour coded, for easy identification. Each one is a combination of a selected abrasive in a specific binder.
Yellow: with a sisal mop, used for the first stage on steel, ferrous and stainless steel, fast cutting leaving a dull sheen.
Blue: generally used for ferrous, steel and stainless steel second stage, on a stitched mop. It blends and polishes minor scratches.
Pink: final stage with a loose-leaf mop, on steel, stainless steel and ferrous metal. Suitable for polishing copper, brass and other non-ferrous metals.
Brown: commonly known as Tripoli and used in the first stage on non-ferrous metals, copper, brass etc. use on a stitched or loose-leaf mop
Buff: on a stitched mop for intermediate buffing or a loose-leaf mop for final polishing of lacquers, acrylics and plastics etc.
Green: a versatile compound used in the first stage for non-ferrous in poor condition with a stitched mop. Useful for rubbing onto a leather strop as a honing compound.
Red compound: often referred to as jeweller’s rouge, is perfect for gold, silver and precious metals as well as the final finishing of brass and copper. Use a loose-leaf mop and with minimal pressure.
