What you'll need
Salt and Pepper Grinder Project
Salt and Pepper grinders have to be one of the most used items at home. A uniquely turned pair of grinders can also make a wonderful centerpiece on the dining table. As part of the Skill Centre At Home series, Colwin Way shows you how to make your very own from start to finish. He offers helpful tips and techniques throughout, whilst answering commonly asked questions.
Salt and Pepper Grinder Timber choice
For this demonstration, Colwin has used Yew for his salt and pepper grinders. Yew is a tough, strong, and resilient timber and perfect for a salt and pepper grinder. Elm, Walnut, Spalted Ash, or Spalted Beech are other timbers you could use. A wide range of woodturning blanks are available here.
Food Safe Oil
Formulated to give you a non-tainting food-safe finish for your wooden projects and turnings. Platters, cheese boards, fruit bowls, and of course salt and pepper grinders. Basically, anything that is in close contact with food. Based on medicinal grade liquid paraffin, this crystal clear oil gives a durable moisture-resistant neutral finish that will not impart a smell and will have minimal influence on the colour of your chosen timber when correctly applied.

Hello Tom
Just been buying tools on the Axminster site ... I'm a keen DIY'er but more for repairs / building construction.
As such, I haven't the tools for woodturning etc .....
Since I'm unable to make my own salt and pepper mills .. I wondered whether you sell those beautiful ones I see
on one of your 'How To's' video ? ... in which you used Yew to make the grinders
Kind regards
