1. Bigger is better!

Over spec your extraction wherever possible. It’s better to have a system that’s too efficient than one that can’t keep up with you.

2. Keep all of your rigid pipework as straight and short as possible

For this reason, choose Y junctions over T shapes.

3. Clean and replace your filters!

Sounds simple enough, but by looking after your filters, they will look after you.

4. Seal all your system joints so that there are no leaks

Otherwise, you risk losing suction power through your leaks and having dust escape into your workshop.

5. Use blast gates at every station

By positioning a blast gate in the ducting run before every machine, you can close the gates to isolate machines not in use. Get the full benefit of extraction on the machines you are using!

6. Earth all rigid plastic pipework

This essential step prevents static build-up and reduces fire risk.

7. Keep flexible pipe to a minimum where possible!

Flexible pipe can reduce airflow and increase blockages if used too much instead of rigid ducting.

8. Choose the right type of extractor

Opt for LVHP for power tools and small machines, and pick HVLP for larger machines.

9. Upgrade your dust collection

Use fine filters to effectively capture even the smallest dust particles. Add an interceptor to your system to grab large debris before it hits your filters. Fine filters and interceptors work together to maintain high suction power!

10. Make the most of every tool at your disposal

Use PPE (personal protective equipment) and LEV (local exhaust ventilation) extraction, as well as your dust extraction system. Your safety is paramount – there’s no replacement for you!
