Learn with our experts via our programme of hands-on woodturning courses in store. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refresh your skills, our courses are designed to teach you all the basics required to kick start your woodturning.
All courses are designed by our in-house tutors and experts and cover lathe use, safety, PPE, blank preparation as well as explore tool use, tips and techniques for successful woodturning.
We currently offer Pen Turning for Beginners and Bowl Turning for Beginners in our Axminster Tools store.
Pen Turning
You will be guided step-by-step in the preparation of your pen blank right through to the turning, finishing and assembly of your selected pen, which you get to take home at the end.
You will learn the basic skills required for between centre turning. You will focus on chisel techniques for roughing down and refining your blank, using a range of woodturning tools, making this is the perfect course for anyone wanting to try woodturning for the first time. Our pen turning courses are taught using Easy Wood Tools, as their carbide‑tipped cutters make it easier for beginners to concentrate on technique and control at the lathe. Participants are welcome to bring their own tools to any course. All materials and PPE will be supplied.
Bowl Turning
You will be guided step-by-step in the preparation of your bowl blank right through to the turning and finishing of your bowl, which you get to take home at the end.
You will learn the basic skills required for faceplate turning. You will focus on chisel techniques for roughing down and refining your blank, using a range of woodturning tools, making this is the perfect course for anyone wanting to expand their basic woodturning skills.
Our bowl turning courses are taught using the Axminster Woodturning Essential Tool Set, allowing participants to develop core bowl‑turning techniques using traditional chisels while focusing on control, presentation and safe working practices at the lathe. Participants are welcome to bring their own tools to any course.Â
