Axminster No. 60 1/2 Block Plane is a versatile low angle block plane designed for trimming, fitting and general workshop use. With its blade bedded at 13.5°, it excels on end grain where a lower cutting angle produces cleaner, easier cuts, while remaining equally effective for a wide range of everyday planing tasks. Compact, comfortable to hold and easy to control, it is an indispensable plane for both bench work and site work.
Built around a robust ductile iron body, the No. 60 1/2 combines strength, durability and precision. The adjustable mouth allows you to optimise the plane for either fine finishing cuts or heavier stock removal, while the micro-adjustable depth mechanism and lateral blade adjustment provide precise blade control for producing fine, consistent shavings. Its lightweight design makes it particularly easy to manoeuvre during detailed trimming and fitting operations.
The sole measures 155mm long and is precision ground for an accurate and reliable performance. The 35mm wide, 3mm thick O1 high carbon steel blade is supplied honed and ready for final sharpening. Oil quenched, hardened and tempered to HRC 63, the blade offers excellent edge retention and durability, making it capable of tackling demanding workshop tasks with ease. Weighing approximately 800g, the plane balances stability and control in a compact format.
The Axminster range is designed to deliver dependable performance, quality craftsmanship and excellent value for woodworkers of all skill levels. Every tool is selected to meet the practical demands of modern workshops while respecting traditional woodworking principles.
One of the most useful planes in any woodworker's toolkit, the Axminster No. 60 1/2 Block Plane is ideal for end grain work, trimming, fitting and general fine-tuning of components. Suitable for hobbyists, furniture makers, joiners and professional tradespeople alike, it requires minimal preparation before use and is supplied with a protective plane sock for safe storage.
